Welcome to the latest installment of 2sday, where each Tuesday I find an interesting automobile produced in the weeks model year. Then I challenge the Oppo community to find other interesting vehicles from that era. Bonus points to for sale listings (i.e. eBay, Craigslist, Hemmings, etc.).

This week we look back on 1932. I expect for sale listings to become more prevalent as the automobile during this time became more mainstream. This is also past when Henry Ford perfected the assembly line and the creation of cheap automobiles for the time.

So it should come as no surprise that this week the car I am profiling is the 1932 Ford. The 1932 Ford has become symbolic of the hot rodding community as during the 1940s and 1950s, these Fords were incredibly cheap and easy to work on.

The 1932 Ford, known as the Model B, came in two main derivatives, the base Model B and the Model 18. These two derivatives came in every body style that could be thought of for a car at this time, a 2 door convertible, 2 or 4 door sedan, a 2 door coupe, a phaeton (a car without weather protection, not to be confused with a VW), a wagon, and a pickup truck (Model BB).

The Model 18 is particularly interesting as it was the first vehicle with a V8 aimed to be massed produced for the average consumer. The Model 18's engine was 3.6 Liter Flat-plane V8 producing a full 65 horsepower (and you thought 1970s Lincolns were bad).

Likewise the introduction of the Model 18 saw the first V8 pickup truck made for the average consumer as well as what could arguably be described as the first Jalop car, a brown station wagon with a V8 engine.

Fun Fact: Even though European cars are associated with being smaller for fitting on the tight roads of European cities, European production Model B's were actually larger than there American counterparts.

'32 Duesenberg. "nuff said" :P

They had an optional centrifugal supercharger on the J model from 1932.. I'd like one, but I guess Jay Leno owns them all, that twat :P

it's funny while the 32 Ford is so coveted today it was second in sales behind Chevy in 32. One of the main reasons was due to all the problems the new Flathead V8 had. Other than the motor issues the Ford was a far superior built car over a comparable Chevy. While the Chevy was more dependable(good ol stovebolt 6) the main issue with a Chrvy was that their entire support structure was wood.(a reason you don't see many today) the wood structure was not as solid and was already trashed and rotted by the Hot Rod Golden Era of the late 49s and 50s
